Across Queensland, more than 40,000 women over 55 are quietly struggling — worn down by rising living costs, little or no superannuation, and a housing crisis that’s leaving them behind. A bereavement. A divorce. An illness. That’s often all it takes for a lifetime of hard work and contribution to end in nowhere secure to call home.
Nearly 80% of single retired women in Australia are now living in poverty. But you won’t see it. There’s no queue, no shelter line — just a car parked somewhere quiet, a couch that isn’t theirs, a bag packed and ready to move again. Invisible. Forgotten.
It could be your mother. Your sister. Your aunty. Your grandmother.
No woman should be forgotten.
